Caring for the People of Egypt

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

The recent unrest in Egypt has led to many challenges and needs for the people living in this region. Businesses have closed and people have lost their jobs. The price of food, clothing and shelter has increased significantly, presenting an even greater hardship. In some areas, garbage is strewn along the side of the road creating yet another burden in the community.

Hand of Hope continues to reach out to some of the poorest of the poor in areas of Egypt to provide medical care and food. Families who may otherwise go without, are able to receive basic medical treatment at no cost through our Hand of Hope medical clinic and a free meal through our Hand of Hope feeding program. Thank you to our partners for helping make a difference in the lives of these people during this time of great transition in Egypt.

Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith.

Reaching Orphans with Christ in Moscow

Joel Renner – Director, JMM Russia/Ukraine Office

Through our partnership with The House of Mercy in Russia, we are able to work together to reach the orphans and the homeless youth of Moscow with the love of Jesus Christ. The children that live in the family-style orphanage are from environments of abuse and neglect. These children know firsthand the Gospel’s message of love and hope and the restorative power of Christ.

Recently, through a special program they created, Lilit (director of The House of Mercy) and orphans were able to share the Gospel and minister to over 200 prisoners. Your support as a friend or partner of Joyce Meyer Ministries allows orphans, the homeless and the incarcerated to hear the transforming message of the Gospel. Thank you for making it possible!

Providing Water to the Datoog in Tanzania

David L. Meyer – CEO Hand of Hope

Hand of Hope sponsored the digging of 2 fresh water wells here in Tanzania through World Serve International. We were told that 5 of every 10 children die in this region before the age of five, mostly from waterborne diseases. The area where Shelly and I are in is extremely remote, a very unreached area near Lake Eyasi. This lake is unfortunately a salt lake so it is of no use. This area is one of the driest in all of Tanzania.

These freshwater wells have literally changed people’s lives forever. Since the water has become available, a medical clinic and school have also been added (through the support of another organization). So the future for this village is bright. We are now looking to help other villages.

Lasting Transformation in Thailand

Scott Norling – Director - JMM Asia Office

From a small farming family in Thailand, Noi kept failing and twice attempted suicide. In an effort to find meaning Noi opted to follow the path of Buddhism and joined an order of monks. Mundane days led to alcoholism and his ejection from the monastery. Even after several rehab treatments nothing changed until Noi heard about Christ. There was a radical change in Noi’s life and he began praying fervently to get rid of his addiction.

For two years now Noi has been leading a small group of believers and is pursuing a degree on scholarship in theology from Indochina Bible College which is supported by Joyce Meyer Ministries, Hand of Hope. After he completes his degree Noi plans to start a church. Thank you partners for helping make such a profound difference in Noi’s life.

AIDS Orphanage Opened in South Africa

Hans Roos – Outreach Coordinator, South Africa

Around 10 years ago, Bukiwe Mhlongo, a local woman, noticed a need and began looking after a few AIDS orphans in her small house in the rural community of Clau Clau, South Africa. Through a series of relationships and the help of a local church, the number of AIDS orphans grew and Hand of Hope came on board. For years we have been able to provide over 100 orphaned and vulnerable kids with a nutritious meal every day, lots of love, and are ensuring the gospel is becoming a daily reality to them.

Through the support of our partners, we have just completed the building of the “Hope Centre” in Clau Clau. This centre houses the nutrition, early childhood development, basic education and spiritual development programs. It also provides a safe, empowering environment where the cycle of poverty and broken family systems can be overcome. We have already seen a transformation in not only the physical health of these kids, but the spiritual health of the community. At the grand opening on February 26, 2011, the kids, the community, the chief and Bukiwe all thanked Hand of Hope and our partners for making this dream an ongoing reality.
